Nicola (aka @PrythianBworm) from Fantastic Book Dragon chose Geek Girl: All Wrapped Up.
Nicola says: “The book I have chosen is Geek Girl: All Wrapped Up. It doesn’t matter what mood you’re in you’ll finish it with a smile on your face. Harriet’s festive spirit is infectious and by the end you’ll be rummaging around for the Christmas music and decorations.”
My thoughts: This was a really quick and Christmassy read, full of the joys of Christmas time from bad dad jokes to decorations and ice-skating. I enjoyed the festivity of it but did find it strange to be reading when it’s summer here. There isn’t the same emphasis on decorating here, or at least not where I’ve been and it did make me pine a little for my own Christmas decorations and my real tree.
I have never read the Geek Girl books so I didn’t know what to expect. I didn’t love this book, it was a fun read but the style of writing was sometimes a little grating and the story just didn’t hook me. I wouldn’t rush out to read the series, but I am glad I read it. I enjoyed it as a light-hearted Christmas story.
Thank you to Nicola for the recommendation.
