Last month, for the first time, I did a planned TBR of books to read that month. I ordered them. It worked well in that it made me read some books I’d probably have put off otherwise, but I didn’t always want to pick up a particular book at a particular time. I concentrated solely on arcs / netgalley books and proofs in April; in May I want to make some time to read some books that I bought myself. I’m never going to clear my mountain if I don’t start. However, the pile of books is way too intimidating for me to choose from right now, so I roped in two of my lovely blogger friends Amy from Golden Books Girl and Louise from Book Murmuration. They’ve each chosen me three books to read in May.
Amy’s Picks:
Simon vs the Homo Sapien Agenda by Becky Albertalli – How have I not read this yet? Amy read and loved it. I’ve seen the film and adored it. It’s time to read the book. I’ve heard it’s a lot different to the film, so it’ll be interesting to see how they differ.
When the Mountains Roared by Jess Butterworth – Anyone who reads Amy’s blog or follows her on Twitter will know she is a huge fan of Jess Butterworth’s work. This is a relatively new addition to my collection and one I’m very much looking forward to reading.
Nevermoor by Jessica Townsend – I wanted this one so badly that I picked up the hardback copy as soon as it came out. I have no idea why I’ve not managed to pick it up yet, other than I have too many books. Amy and Louise both loved this book, and I have heard nothing but great things about it.
Louise’s Picks:
Spellslinger by Sebastien De Castell – I picked this one up in a haul whilst I was with Louise. She handed it to me, said I’d enjoy it and off I trotted to the checkout. It sounds like exactly my kind of book and I’m thrilled that Louise has chosen it for me this month.
The Beast Player by Nahoko Uehashi – I picked this one for the cover. I am shallow. Louise loved it when she read it, and I’m sure I will too because I have heard great things.
The Wicked Deep by Shea Earnshaw – I got this one in a book subscription package a while ago. I love the sound of this book, and of all the books chosen this month, this is the one I’m most excited to pick up.
If I make it through these six, then I promised Kelly from Kelly’s Rambles that I would read Six of Crows and after that, I’m back to netgalleys.
What do you think of this month’s choices? Fancy choosing me some books for a future month? Let me know what you think I should read down in the comments. You can see my full TBR here.
If I’m allowed, I REALLY want to pick another TBR for you one day. I’ll fill it with joy and happiness ššš. Hope you enjoy my picks this time!

FAB reading ahead for you!
I can’t believe you haven’t read Simon yet, it’s so sweet. And The Beast Player is excellent. (The rest of these are still lounging on my own long term tbr shh)

Definitely, some fab choices and books for you to read Charlotte! I hope you enjoy Simon Vs, as it’s brilliant but different to the film and I can’t wait to hear what you think of Nevermoor which is outstanding! I can’t wait to get my hands on Wundersmith!

I’ve just got Nevermoor left now. Read a lot of “off list” books because I’m a rebel. How’s your reading going?
