Coffee and… August Releases I’m Excited For

Today, my coffee and I are looking at all the exciting August releases. Yes, it’s that time of the month where I preemptively kiss goodbye to my pay cheque.

coffee and...

The Coffee:

This week I am drinking Buziraguhindwa, a Burundi coffee roasted by Workshop.

The Books:

Are We All Snowflakes and Lemmings? by Holly Bourne. Yes, I love Holly okay? So every book she writes instantly makes it to the top of the books I need RIGHT NOW. Holly is a master at writing books with mental health themes, and this one promises to be exceptional: how do you fix the world when you can’t fix yourself?

Only Love Can Break Your Heart by Katherine Webber. Katie Webber is one of the top most awesome humans of ever. Wing Jones is one of my favourite reads and I cannot wait to see what Katie has in store for us next. I am expecting Reiko and Seth’s story to absolutely break my heart.

Vox by Christina Dalcher. I have been excited for Vox since I first heard about it.  The American government decrees that women are only allowed 100 words per day. This is only the start. A book with feminist themes set in a world not entirely outwith the realm of possibility? I cannot wait to get my hands on this.

The Lost Witch by Melvin Burgess. Bea discovers from strangers that she has rare witch powers and she is being hunted. This promises to be an exciting fantasy read about magic and following your instincts. I have always had a soft spot for a witch story, and this sounds intriguing. I have high hopes for it.

Colour Me In by Lydia Raffles. The second novel from Lydia. I absolutely adored her first book The Taste of Blue Light. This alone had me adding Colour Me In to my watch list. It helps that it also sounds amazing: Arlo flees from his life and his friend Luke with just a sketchbook fill of maps. Then he meets Mizuki, and she feels like home. But Mizuki is searching for something. It sounds like I’m about to get my heart ripped out and handed to me on a plate. Bring it on.

The Island by M. A. Bennett. I still have not read S.T.A.G.S. but I am still excited for this. Link finds himself having to go on a school trip to an island with a group of his fellow students, none of whom like each other. When oppressive heat, hunger and thirst start to bite, everyone’s true colours will be revealed. Yes. Please.

Catwoman: Soulstealer by Sarah J. Maas – Sarah’s books have been a bit hit and miss for me. I adored Throne of Glass, but couldn’t get on with A Court of Thorns and Roses at all. However, I am all here for this Catwoman story. I love me an origin story and Catwoman looks set to be a grand adventure.

Strange Grace by Tessa Gratton. A legend about a witch who made a pact with the devil. When the Slaughter Moon rises, the village must sacrifice a young man to the Devil’s Forest, and this year, the moon is early. Sounds delightfully creepy and right up my street.

Those are my picks for next month. Which upcoming books are you excited for?
