October brought me some great reads, a fabulous bookish date, a great event, and a vile chest infection. Some of these I enjoyed more than others. Hannah picked me a great TBR to see me through the month, so huge thanks to Hannah for that.
September closed with some terrible maths and 334 books on Mount Ted. In October, I had another review of my Goodreads list. I feel like I am ALWAYS having to review it because no matter how many times I do, there are always books on there I’ve read that haven’t moved off my TBR or duplicate copies. Does this happen to anyone else?
I read 22 books: The Astonishing Colour of After, The Song Rising, City of Dust, Starry Eyes, Orphan Monster Spy, S.T.A.G.S, Out of the Blue, Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban, The Extinction Trials, If He Wakes, How Do You Like Me Now?, Exile, Before I Let Go, The Island, On the Merits of Unnaturalness, Funscreen, The Language of Dying, These Precious Scars, My Best Friend’s Exorcism, Every Day, Another Day, and Someday . I’ve made a conscious effort this month to read my Netgalley books and to get through some of the shorter books on my TBR. I want to get my TBR to under 300 books by the end of the year. Bonus points to me if I get under 275 (ha!)
I added 12 books to the pile, which you will be able to see in tomorrow’s haul post (there are some beauties). I DNF three books this month. I also tidied up my Goodreads shelf, and took one book off my TBR after a discussion with a trusted friend made me realise it really was not a book for me. This puts my end of October Mount Ted at 308 books.
Where in the World? This challenge is going nowhere again this month. I still need to read one more book to complete it, with the author coming from either South America or Antarctica. I may need to branch the challenge out from my original intentions and choose a novel set in one of those places if I’m going to complete it in time.
Magic Square – 22/25. I haven’t read anything new for this one yet but I’ll be able to tick one off with my November TBR. After that it’s a classic and a biography, neither of which I’m usually interested in, so if you have any suggestions for these that I might like, please let me know!
Book Riot Read Harder – 12/24. Again, I’ve read nothing for this in October. I’m hoping to tick off a couple in November. A lot of what is left are subjects I’m not really interested in, but I’m hoping to get another 9 ticked off before the end of this year. Wish me luck!
Netgalley Crackdown – This month I’ve kicked 4 more books from shelf by reading The Astonishing Colour of After, Out of the Blue, How Do You Like Me Now? and Before I Let Go. Two of the books I DNF were from my Netgalley shelf, and I’m pleased to say I now only have 2 books left to read to completely clear my shelf.
How was your October? What were your bookish highlights?
