The Song Request Book Tag!

The lovely Rosie of Rosie Freckle Reads tagged me in this months and months ago. I’m ashamed it’s taken me so long to do this tag, but here we are.

book tag

Rules:

  • Thank and link back to tagger. (I wasn’t tagged I just saw this and wanted to do it but I’m using Shaz’s post)
  • Credit to Daniel @ Page to Page
  • Listen to tagger’s song requests! After you’re done listening to the three songs the person who tagged you has chosen, choose a book that you think best goes along with that song and tell us why you chose it!
  • Request 3 songs of your own! Give any three songs (and your corresponding book choices that think go well with said song) you want for your taggers to listen and respond to!
  • Tag 5 people!

The Songs I’m Responding To:

1. Look What You Made Me Do by Taylor Swift. I’m GUTTED Rosie chose Nevernight for this, because this would have been the perfect choice. As a second option, I’m going to go with Game of Thrones by George R. R. Martin, because these lyrics fit Arya’s storyline perfectly. She has a hit list, and the people in her life have driven her to become a faceless assassin. I think that’s the ultimate “look what you made me do”… cut off and wear the faces of the dead, whilst hunting down your enemies.

2. Cooler Than Me by Mike Posner. I pondered the answer to this one for a while, but I’m going with Only Ever Yours by Louise O’Neill, where the women fight to be the most perfect, most beautiful and compete for the attention of men. The idea of thinking your cooler (or better) that someone else is at the centre of this book where appearances are everything.

3. Angels by The XX. I had never heard this song before Rosie picked it in this tag (thanks Rosie!) but to me it has a real note of obsession, the lyrics repeating “as in love with you as I am”, and the book that immediately came to mind was The Places I’ve Cried in Public by Holly Bourne, where an obsessive kind of “love” is at the centre of the story. It also works well with the idea of “if they saw you like I do” and the endings, which are both important in Holly’s latest book.

The Songs I’m Picking:

1. Hey Jealousy by Gin Blossoms

2. Light Outside by Wakey Wakey

3. Walk Me Home by P!nk

I’m tagging Amy, Sarah, Mel, Steph and Kelly. If they fancy it.

What books would you pair with particular songs?
