It’s been a while since we did a Books with the Boy post. S had been struggling a lot with everything that’s going on just now, but in amongst that, he designed a reading challenge for June so we thought we would share it today with our planned TBRs and if anyone else wants to join in, they can.

S wanted to design his own reading challenge after attempting the OWLs in April (he managed to read three of the four books he set himself, which was amazing with everything going on and the size of one of the books he picked!). He spent a morning designing his own reading challenged based on his current obsession, Star Wars for June.
The Challenge
To complete the challenge, you have to choose a character and then read the books for that character’s prompts. Any book counts, whatever the length and however you consume it, and one book can count for up to two of the prompts. S is pretty relaxed about it. The characters and prompts are:

A Padwan (like Mace Windu)
- A book with a purple front cover
- A book set in a magical world
A Jedi Knight (like Luke Skywalker)
- A book with a blue front cover
- A book set in a magical world
- A book with siblings in it
A Jedi Master (like Yoda)
- A book with a green front cover
- A book set in a magical world
- A book with an old person in it
A Sith (like Darth Vader)
- A book with a red front cover
- A book set in a magical world
- A book with darkness in it
Our TBRs
S is going to read for Jedi Master. He will be reading Dragon Mountain by Katie and Kevin Tsang for his book with an old person in it (he has already started this one but not got very far. And for the book set in a magical world, he will read Wizards of Once: Twice Magic by Cressida Cowell, which will also double up as a book with a green cover.
I will be reading for Jedi Knight (obviously I also wanted to be Yoda, but we decided we should each do something different. I’m going to aim to read If Birds Fly Back by Carlie Sorosiak for my book with a blue cover; Two Dark Reigns by Kendare Blake for my book set in a magical world; and The Key to Finding Jack by Ewa JozefKowicz for my book with siblings.
If anyone else does want to take part, it’s taking place over the whole of this month and everyone who lets us know on Twitter (@charlotteswhere) will be entered into a draw to win a small prize(if you don’t have or use Twitter then let me know here in the comments and we will, of course, include you). S will draw a name from a hat and announce a winner on 1st July.
Are you joining us?
Good luck with your reading challenge S! And I have If Birds Fly Back/The Key to Finding Jack on my TBR as well- really looking forward to both x

My niece and nephew are interested. For Mace Windu challenge I’ve added a P.O.C. Or Diverse Read. Niece is going to do that challenge and nephew chose Darth Vader.

So sorry I have only just seen this. I’ve not had my laptop for a while because the keyboard broke! How are they getting on? A diverse read is a brilliant addition. What books did they choose? Please do let us know if they complete the challenge and we will put them into the prize draw! 🙂
