It’s Wednesday, it’s still only January and the world is still going to hell in a handbasket. So, I’m sitting down with a coffee to look at some books I hope to read before the apocalypse is upon us.
This week, we’re drinking the Ethiopian Bale Mountain from Steampunk. This is a favourite of mine with tasting notes of forest fruits and honeysuckle. This week during work and supervising school work from home, I’ve discovered it has a really strong, almost fermented fruit taste when you let it get cold. On balance, I prefer it hot.
The Mask Falling by Samantha Shannon – This is book four in The Bone Season and I am still not over the ending of the third book yet. This series constantly shocks and delights me and I cannot wait to see what Paige and Warden have in store for my fragile heart this time.
Concrete Rose by Angie Thomas – The prequel to The Hate U Give which I read and absolutely loved a few years ago. Concrete Rose is Maverick’s story. I love Maverick in THUG, and I’ve always wanted to know more about his life before, so I am excited for this. Hopefully by the time you’re reading this, my preorder will have arrived.
A Crown of Talons by Katherine and Elizabeth Corr – I only recently read A Throne of Swans and I loved it. I love a good political fantasy and I am so pleased I get to read the sequel so soon after finishing book one because I am very invested in Aderyn’s story.
The Gilded Ones by Namina Forna – I read a sampler of this after YALC 2019 and I have wanted to get my hands on it since then. The sampler ended on a really shocking moment, and I cannot wait to finally get my hands on the finished story and find out what happens next.
Murder on the Safari Star by M.G. Leonard and Sam Sedgeman – This is the third in the Adventures on Trains series and I am excited to have it to read (hopefully when I’m off for half term). I adore these characters and their stories; they bring me such joy.
The Storm Keeper’s Battle by Catherine Doyle – This is the final book in the Storm Keeper trilogy. I adored the first two books. The second broke me a little. I am both excited and terrified for this final instalment. I don’t know if my little heart will survive it.
Dragon Legend by Katie and Kevin Tsang – If you’ve been here before, you’ll know Katie and Kevin write one of mine and S’s favourite MG series. We both loved the first in the Dragons series and the ending was a real shocker. We can’t wait to get our hands on this next book.
The Last Hours Chain of Iron by Cassie Clare – I am absolute trash for the shadowhunter books. I’ve read and loved every one of them and Chain of Gold was one of my favourites so far. I am glad I don’t have long to wait to read the sequel to this.
These are some of the books I am most excited for this year! What books are you looking forward to in the next few months?
