It’s Thursday. It’s tag day, so I’m doing the Summer Vibes Book Tag, created by Deanna, the Comfy Reader which I found over on Kristin Kraves Books.

It’s so hot here in the UK at the moment, so a summery tag seemed perfect for today. And since it’s been a while, hopefully I have some new books to recommend.

JUST ONE DAMNED THING AFTER ANOTHER BY JODI TAYLOR
I don’t believe I’ve read anything recently with a truly tropical setting in a long time, but this book, about time travelling historians, has a decent chunk set in the cretaceous period with heat, tropical foliage and a tonne of dinosaurs. That counts, right?

YOU’RE THE ONE THAT I WANT BY SIMON JAMES GREEN
Can I have another slightly cheat answer? You’re The One That I Want has a drama setting where the group are performing Grease, which is a musical. There’s singing, and dancing, and romance as well as drama. That’s got to count as a musical focus.

THE SOCIETY FOR SOULLESS GIRLS BY LAURA STEVEN
This book has a secret at the heart of it, and it could definitely be described as juicy, in a sort of dark and very, very twisty way. It’s the kind that knocks your socks off and makes you gasp. You should definitely read it if you haven’t yet.

THE FALSE ROSE BY JAKOB WEGELIUS
The False Rose is another brilliant Sally Jones book. I adore this series. Sally is such a brilliant character. This one does spend a fair amount of time on land, but of course, as with the first, this one is focused a lot on their boat, The Hudson Queen.

I HAVE NO ANSWER FOR THIS.
Does that sound like a cop out? I don’t consider ice cream, books or genres to be a guilty pleasure. If I enjoy them and they bring me joy, then that is all that matters. And I bloody love books and ice cream, so I plan to enjoy both as much as possible.

SOMETHING CERTAIN MAYBE BY SARA BARNARD
Not only does this book have my favourite friendship trio in all of the YA books, but it also has a picnic scene that made me squeal. I adore these three girls and I am so, so pleased that we have a Rosie book to complete their story.

SABOTAGE ON THE SOLAR EXPRESS BY M.G. LEONARD AND SAM SEDGMAN
This is the latest book in my favourite Middle Grade mystery series. I do not know why Hal’s parents keep allowing him on train trips with his uncle, but I’m glad they do. The scrapes these two get themself involved in have me hooked.

ANOTHER ONE I HAVE NO ANSWER FOR
I am a ruthless DNFer. If I am not enjoying a book then I stop. I don’t make myself keep reading for the sake of finishing. I never regret the books that I’ve finished. I know that sounds like a flaky answer, but life is too short to read books I don’t love.

DOG DAYS: A YEAR AND A DAY WITH OLIVE AND MABEL BY ANDREW COTTER
There’s more to this book than just light and cute, but any book with Olive and Mabel is a cute book. I adored Andrew’s videos of them during the lockdowns. They cheered me up so much and I loved reading this book about them.

THE LONG WAY TO A SMALL ANGRY PLANET BY BECKY CHAMBERS
I slept on these books for so long and I have no idea why. I absolutely loved this book. Most of the characters are wonderful. There is one hellishly annoying character in this book though. Every time he showed up, I wanted to throw something at him.
Which book character would you never get tired of throwing things at?
Who’s the annoying one in Long Way to a Small Angry Planet? I can maybe guess, but also I kind of loved him by the end if I’m right so I’m not sure 🤣 x

The guy who does THE THING near the end. I had complicated feelings about what he did. And he irritated me the rest of the time

Ah, not my guess but he annoyed me too!! I still haven’t read the second. Do I need to do that?

Okay I need to know who annoyed you now. Feel free to DM me. I’m reading book 2. It’s all about Pepper and the replacement for Lovelace. It’s not as good as the first one so far but mainly because I miss the other characters
